“If you’re not comfortable in your knickers, please do not apply”: UK casting calls expose sexism
Since early 2013, an actress going by the name of Miss L, or her Twitter handle @ProResting, has been publishing lines from unusual casting calls online. Through her Tumblr blog account, Casting Call Woe, L has listed more than 450 casting notes.
The vast majority have been selected as examples of how inappropriate and sleazy some casting calls can be. “Fake boobs are a plus,” “Pretty girl. Does what women do best – looking after her boys,“ and the blunt “NOT UGLY” are three of literally hundreds which demonstrate how women are viewed in some parts of the entertainment industry.
