82-year-old Alice Munro, this year’s winner of the Nobel Literature Prize and the 13th woman ever to win since its inception in 1901. Here’s why she rocks: 

  • Notable works include “Lives of Girls and Women”; “Who Do You Think You Are?”; “The Progress of Love”
  • She’s published more than a dozen collection of short stories since the 1960s, often focusing on the lives of girls and women from the towns and farming communities in her home region of southwestern Ontario.
  • Only canadian winner of the lit prize apart from a Canadian-American novelist
  • First woman to win since Herta Mueller in 2009 
  • One of the few literature laureates to write almost exclusively in the short story form
