Today We Celebrate Ada Lovelace, Pioneering Computer Programmer!
The daughter of the poet Lord Byron, Lovelace is believed to be the first computer programmer – and is the subject of a new book on the computer age. Today, on Ada Lovelace Day, she is honored with events around the world to celebrate her pioneering spirit and modern women of STEM. A few of them:
- Brown University and Wikipedia have organized a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. From 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET, participants can create, expand, or update the Wikipedia pages of female STEM notables and pioneers.
- Ada Lovelace Day Live! - a nerd cabaret featuring talks, science demonstrations, comedy and song - is a cross-discipline celebration of women in STEM, and will be held at Imperial College London
- Major cities across the U.S. are hosting events to celebrate this trailblazer, which include everything from discussions to networking opportunities. Find out more here.
